The Institute of Gems and Jewellery (IGJ) celebrated a landmark weekend as it hosted its formal Convocation Ceremony on January 8th, followed by a spectacular cultural evening titled “ONENESS” on January 9th. The two-day event, held at the IGJ Campus, brought together global industry leaders, local government officials, and creative visionaries to honor the graduating class of 2026.
Day 1: The Convocation Ceremony (January 8th)
The formal proceedings commenced at 6:30 PM, marked by an atmosphere of pride and professional achievement. The evening was structured to reflect both the heritage of the institute and the future of the global jewelry trade.
Opening and Leadership Addresses
The ceremony opened with a Welcome Speech by Mr. Amjad Shahir, CEO of IGJ, who emphasized the institute’s role in shaping the future workforce of the gem industry. Following this, Dr. Dinesh KS, Principal of IGJ, delivered a poignant address on the “IGJ Legacy,” detailing the academic rigors and the institute’s evolution into a center of excellence.
The Presidential Address was delivered by Mr. KTMA Salam, Chairman of IGJ, who officially presided over the ceremony, noting that the graduates are now ambassadors of a craft that combines ancient tradition with modern technology.
Keynote and Graduation Honors
The introduction of the evening’s Chief Guest was performed by Mr. Akhil S., Vice Principal of IGJ. This led to the highly anticipated Graduation Speech by Ms. Revathi Kant, Chief Design Officer of Titan Company Limited. Ms. Kant shared invaluable industry insights, urging the graduates to maintain their creative curiosity and to design with the “modern consumer” in mind.
Distinguished Keynote Addresses & Special Awards
The program featured a series of Keynote Addresses from a panel of esteemed guests who represent the various pillars of the industry and society:
- Mr. Rajeev Garg (Executive Director – Gem & Jewellery Skill Council of India): Spoke on the importance of standardized skill development in a globalized market.
- Adv. Rinisha Rafeeq (Municipal Chairperson, Malappuram): Applauded the institute’s contribution to the local economy and the empowerment of skilled professionals in the region.
- Dr. Sajeev Kumar S. (Vice President, Medhavi Skills University & IGJ Advisory Council): Discussed the academic integration of vocational training into higher education frameworks.
- Adv. Shihab Mecheri (Co-founder & CEO, Legal CXO & IGJ Advisory Council): Provided a perspective on the legal and ethical landscape of the jewelry business.
- Mr. Abdul Kareem K. T. (Director, IGJ): Shared words of encouragement, focusing on the entrepreneurial spirit required for success.
Awards and Diploma Presentation
A highlight of the evening was the presentation of Special Awards, where students were recognized for their specific mastery:

Following the awards, the long-awaited Presentation of Diplomas took place between 8:20 PM and 9:20 PM. The formal ceremony concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Mr. Karthik Perumal, Academic Coordinator of IGJ, who expressed gratitude to the faculty and the guests for their unwavering support
Day 2: “ONENESS” Cultural Night (January 9th)
The celebration continued on the following day with “ONENESS,” a vibrant cultural event designed to celebrate the unity and creative diversity of the IGJ student body.
Inauguration by V. A. Sreekumar
The evening was inaugurated by the renowned film director, Mr. V. A. Sreekumar. In his inaugural address, Mr. Sreekumar drew parallels between the art of filmmaking and the art of jewelry making—both requiring a meticulous eye for detail and a deep understanding of human emotion. He officially opened the cultural night, encouraging students to explore the “Oneness” of art across all mediums.
Cultural Highlights
The “ONENESS” program featured a wide array of student performances, including:
- Choreographed Dance Sequences: Blending traditional Indian styles with contemporary forms.
- Thematic Performances: Highlighting the journey of a craftsman.
- Musical Showcases: Featuring both vocal and instrumental talents of the IGJ student body.
