International Colloquium Announcement
The second Edition of TREASURES, an award-winning international colloquium, will take place under the patronage of the President of the Republic of Portugal at the Royal Treasure Museum, Palácio Nacional da Ajuda, in Lisboa, Portugal, November 13-14, 2026.
Theme of the 2026 Edition
The theme of this year’s edition is “Crowns and Tiaras.” During the two-day colloquium, participants will enjoy presentations by a choice of researchers and discussion panels with gem and jewellery experts from major museums, collections and institutes worldwide about royal and imperial crowns, diamond tiaras, and gem-set hat and hair jewellery.
Special Royal Crown Presentation
In memory of the second centenary of the death of Portugal’s king Dom João (John) VI of the Braganza Dynasty (†1826), the colloquium will feature a special presentation of the Royal Crown – on display at the museum – that was made, in Brazil, on the occasion of his accession to the throne of the United Kingdom of Portugal, Brazil and the Algarves in 1818. The colloquium is looking forward to welcoming H.H. the Lady Infanta D. Maria Francisca de Bragança, Duchess of Coimbra, of the Portuguese Royal House of Bragança, who will be honouring the participants with her presence.
Importance of the Royal Treasure Museum
“The Portuguese Crown Jewels and other treasures of the Royal House have been on public display at the state-of-the-art Royal Treasure Museum, at the Ajuda National Palace, in Lisbon, since June 2022. The unique historical, artistic, gemmological, and visual wealth of these collections set up the perfect scenario to bring together speakers of the highest international caliber to talk about treasures that belong, or once belonged, to ruling sovereigns and their families from various geographies across the globe,” Rui Galopim de Carvalho, TREASURES Master of Ceremonies and Programme Chair, said.
Strong Response to the Inaugural Edition
“In 2024, the inaugural TREASURES colloquium was significantly over-subscribed,” Nuno Vale, Executive Director of the Royal Treasure Museum, noted. “Therefore, we urge interested parties to register and book as soon as possible, as we do not want to disappoint anyone!”
Exclusive Museum Access and Hospitality
During the colloquium, participants will enjoy exclusive access to the Museum’s Portuguese Royal collections. The organizers will once again offer Portugal’s famous hospitality and exquisite catering during the coffee and lunch breaks, as well as at the Gala Dinner, which was one of the highlights of last year’s colloquium’s social events.
Cultural and Jewellery-Related Activities
To make the participants’ experience of Lisbon even more memorable, pre- and post- colloquium activities, i.e. cultural and jewellery-related tours, will be available.
