The roadshow for IIJS Bharat – Signature 2026, the world’s one of the largest gold and jewellery exhibition to be held in Mumbai from January 8–12, was inaugurated in Kozhikode by Kerala Gold and Silver Merchants Association, State President, Mr. K. Surendran. The event marked participation of more than 400 Jewellers in Kozhikode.
Industry Preparation and Local Issues
As the industry prepares for this remarkable exhibition, trade representatives in Kerala took the opportunity to voice the pressing issues confronting local jewellers. Mr K. Surendran, State President, Kerala Gold and Silver Merchants Association said that Kerala’s gold trade, once a symbol of stability, now faces deep uncertainty due to frequent GST raids and police recoveries. He criticised statements by the Finance Minister and Opposition Leader that labelled traders as tax evaders without disclosing true turnover data. He also noted that police investigations often target the traditional trade sector, while the illegal market, where old and stolen gold is widely circulated, continues unchecked through open advertisements and street posters.
District Convention
The district convention, presided over by Mr Arjun Gaikkuvad, featured a keynote by Kerala Traders Coordination Committee District President Mr Bapu, State Vice Presidents Mr Zakir Hussain and Mr Faisal Amin, Secretaries Mr M. C. Dineshan and Mr Nitin Thomas, and other state council members attended.
