Jaipur Jewellery Show 2024: A Grand Showcase of Gems and Jewellery

The 20th Jaipur Jewellery Show (JJS), with the vision to give an impetus to the Gems and Jewellery trade and to place Jaipur on the World Gem & Jewellery map, was organised from 20 – 23 December 2024 at the Jaipur Exhibition & Convention Centre (JECC) in Sitapura, Jaipur. The theme of this year’s show was ‘Rubies… Rare, Royal and Revered’. The show witnessed participation in large numbers, both from visitors and traders, along with exquisite displays of jewellery, gemstones, artefacts, etc.

Inaugural Ceremony: Key Highlights and Announcements

In the Inaugural Ceremony, Rajasthan Minister of Industry and Commerce, Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, in his address as the Chief Guest, said that the Gems and Jewellery Industry contributes significantly to the State’s economy, accounting for 17% of Rajasthan’s GDP. The Jaipur Jewellery Show (JJS) plays a pivotal role in skill development among the youth, inspiring them to uphold and advance the rich legacy of gems and jewellery. The world’s largest gem bourse should be established in Jaipur and the State Government will support this initiative.

Mr. Rathore also proposed the development of a convention facility similar to Delhi’s Bharat Mandapam on a 100-acre site near Jaipur Airport. He further highlighted the need to focus on international markets alongside domestic opportunities. He stressed the importance of leveraging technology to anticipate global market demands and align production accordingly. Furthermore, he emphasised the value of storytelling and showcasing the authenticity of each product to build trust and enhance global appeal.

Infrastructure and Growth of Jaipur’s Jewellery Industry

Chairman of National Gems and Jewellery Council of India (NGJCI), Pramod Derewala, highlighting the infrastructure of Jaipur, informed that within the 4 kilometers radius in Jaipur, there are two Special Economic Zones (SEZs), one Export Promotion Industrial Park (EPIP), Gems and Jewellery institute, training institute, world-class laboratory and gem bourse coming up.

JJS: A Tough Competitor to International Jewellery Shows

Chairman of All India Gem and Jewellery Domestic Council, Saiyam Mehra, said that there is an exceptional display of jewellery here and JJS is giving a tough fight to all international shows. JJS has now become the ‘Kundan Meena capital’ of the country. GJC – All India Gem And Jewellery Domestic Council is working closely with JJS to promote gems and jewellery. He informed that this year, the Zonal Council Meeting (ZCM) saw the attendance of over 45 GJC members.

Gem Bourse: A Game-Changer for Employment and Growth

Regional Chairman of the Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC), Nirmal Kumar Bardiya, announced that the upcoming Gem Bourse will span an impressive 43,828 square meters, with a total construction area of 30 Lakh square feet. Once operational, it is expected to generate employment opportunities for over 60,000 persons.

JJS 2024: From Humble Beginnings to a Grand Platform

JJS Honorary Secretary, Rajiv Jain recapitulated the highlights and traditions of this year’s JJS. He said that from a mere 67 booths in 2003, there are over 1200 booths this year. JJS brings everything under one roof, offering a showroom-like experience to visitors while providing a platform for jewellery students and designers to showcase their talent. With 95% of exhibitors returning year after year, JJS stands as a testament to their trust and commitment. The theme of JJS 2024 centres around the ‘Ruby’ gemstone, as it is the central stone of the ‘Navratna’, he informed.

Collaborations and Promotions Elevate JJS

The Chairman of JJS, Vimal Chand Surana in his welcome address said that Gemfields, as the prime promotion partner along with 15 esteemed partners, brings unparalleled prestige to JJS. Rising Rajasthan, rooted in the same soil and sharing the same grand venue as JJS, is a testament to our shared legacy of excellence.

The opening ceremony of the show was moderated by the Spokesperson of JJS, Ajay Kala. In his address, he emphasised that JJS is a comprehensive showcase, bringing together an exquisite range of precious and vibrant colour gemstones. He highlighted how the extensive promotion of Jaipur’s gems and jewellery across India has significantly strengthened the city’s brand image.

Visitors and Exhibitors Celebrate Success

A large number of jewellery lovers thronged the Jaipur Jewellery Show (JJS) at JECC, Sitapura. Not only the residents of Jaipur, but many foreign tourists who came to visit Jaipur at year-end were also a part of the December show. The visitors interacted with the stall owners about the different types of jewellery. Interacting with the interested buyers, resolving their queries and meeting the demand was also encouraging for the exhibitors of the show.

Exhibitors opined that this year’s edition is the most successful and profitable till now. The rising gold prices influenced a noticeable shift in consumer preferences, with lightweight jewellery emerging as a prominent trend among visitors. Bridal jewellery also garnered significant attention, with numerous inquiries pouring in. Innovative designs in open settings, as well as traditional styles like Kundan Meena Jewellery and Parab Polki, captivated attendees, showcasing the perfect blend of heritage and modernity.

JJDF: A Launchpad for Young Designers

The Jaipur Jewellery Design Festival (JJDF), organised every year in JJS, has now become a special feature of JJS. The objective at JJS has been to encourage and promote jewellery designers and artisans. Under this objective, JJS hosted the Jaipur Jewellery Design Festival (JJDF) for the seventh time this year. Organised under the theme ‘Tradition Meets Innovation…Ruby Redefined’, the festival showcased traditional designs with a focus on rubies through a contemporary approach.

Young designers from several leading 10 design institutes participated in JJDF. Spread over an area of around 500 sq. ft., the festival witnessed the creations of emerging designers, artisans and craftsmen. The Artisans Pavilion became the main attraction of the festival where stalls of handicrafts like exclusive Thewa Jewellery, Kundan Meena and gemstone carving were set up by the artisans. Along with this, visitors got an opportunity to see and understand these traditional art forms closely through live demonstrations.

Uncut: Unfiltered Dialogues

Under the Jaipur Jewellery Design Festival (JJDF), ‘Uncut: Unfiltered Dialogues’ were organised, which included insightful talks by industry experts. This was a new feature added to the show this year.

Sessions on Day 2

Unveiling the World of Rubies

The session, titled ‘Unveiling the World of Rubies,’ was conducted by the Senior Manager of Instruction at the Gemological Institute of America (GIA), Arjun Pansari. He covered various aspects of rubies, including quality factors, colour, clarity, identity factors, certification, ruby imitations, synthetics, and more.

Finding Your Way: A Candid Chat With Navrattan Kothari on Success and Staying True

Another session, ‘Finding Your Way: A Candid Chat With Navrattan Kothari on Success and Staying True,’ was led by the Chairman of the KGK Group, Navrattan Kothari, and moderated by Rajiv Jain, Honorary Secretary of JJS. Mr. Kothari engaged in a heartfelt conversation with the audience, sharing the highs and lows of his journey, the pivotal decisions that shaped his career, and the philosophy that keeps him grounded and motivated.

In the discussion, he highlighted how his family values and the foundation of his education played pivotal roles in shaping his strong work ethic. Reflecting on his entrepreneurial journey, he candidly shared the numerous challenges he encountered and how he skillfully navigated the complex landscape of success. When discussing his personal life, he fondly recounted meaningful anecdotes from his childhood, offering a glimpse into the experiences that molded him into the person he is today.

Mastering Procreate to Revolutionise Jewellery Design

Later, the session, ‘Mastering Procreate to Revolutionise Jewellery Design,’ was presented by independent designer Shikha Jain. She introduced the audience to ‘Procreate,’ a cutting-edge digital illustration app revolutionising the jewellery design process worldwide. This session demonstrated how both seasoned and novice designers can leverage this technology to experiment with designs, colour schemes, and intricate details.

Sessions on Day 3

The Jaipur Advantage: What Sets This Jewellery Hub Apart

A lively discussion with Jaipur’s renowned jewellers on why the city continues to captivate as India’s most unique and sought-after jewellery hub took place in the session titled, ‘The Jaipur Advantage: What Sets This Jewellery Hub Apart.’ The panelists included Chandra Surana from Bhuramal Rajmal Surana, Sunita Shekhawat from Sunita Shekhawat, Yash Agarwal from Birdhichand Ghanshyamdas, Tarang Arora from Amrapali, and Anju Jain from Exquisite Fine Jewellery. The session was skilfully moderated by Joint Secretary of JJS, Ajay Kala.

Chandra Surana pointed out that the key to standing out while preserving both the city’s legacy and the brand’s heritage lies in seamlessly blending exceptional quality and high standards with unwavering client satisfaction. He also stressed the importance of nurturing the next generation of artisans, encouraging them to embrace the craft and ensuring fair compensation for craftsmen.

Highlighting the importance of storytelling in Jaipur jewellery, Sunita Shekhawat delved into the exquisite art of enameling and the origins of Meenakari. She shared how Jaipur has gained global recognition for pink enameling, a craft elevated through storytelling and the continuous reinvention of these narratives.

Speaking about elevating Jaipur’s jewellery to a global platform, Yash Agarwal emphasised the importance of crafting a compelling narrative when introducing jewellery and designs to international markets. He highlighted the need to balance tradition with innovation while preserving Jaipur’s rich heritage.

Throwing light on why Jaipur has the edge as a jewellery hub, Tarang Arora explained that the city’s unique selling point is its multiple craftsmen collaborating on different aspects of a single jewellery piece, contrasting with monotonous European designs.

Discussing recent trends, Anju Jain shared her approach to designing jewellery tailored for the mid-segment audience. She emphasised wearability for everyday life, highlighting the importance of creating pieces that seamlessly integrate into modern lifestyles.

Revolutionising Jewellery: The Power of AI

In the session titled, ‘Revolutionising Jewellery: The Power of AI,’ Jaynil Ajmera, Director of JK Diamonds Institute of Gems & Jewellery, explored the transformative role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the jewellery industry. Jaynil highlighted that 60% of Indians are now leveraging AI, showcasing its significant impact and benefits for jewellers.

‘Pink Club’ – Centre of Attraction

A special B2B pavilion, ‘Pink Club,’ launched in JJS 2022, has now become an integral part of the show. In JJS 2024, Pink Club was connected to Hall 2 with more space. This year, it featured 98 pre-fabricated booths exclusively for business-to-business customers, providing jewellers with a chance to meet business clients directly. Amenities included a special lounge with complimentary tea/coffee and free Wi-Fi.

The prestigious JJS Design Awards 2024 were held at the Atlantis Banquet in Sitapura, Jaipur, graced by renowned actress Vaani Kapoor, who presented awards to the winners.

Networking Dinner Organised to Promote Business

A grand networking dinner was organised at Hotel Jaipur Marriott on the evening of the second day of the Jaipur Jewellery Show. Live music performance by Sufi band, ‘Swaraag,’ made the evening more pleasant. Meanwhile, leading traders, exhibitors, and designers from the gems and jewellery industry got an opportunity to strengthen business relations, explore the possibility of new partnerships, and discuss the latest trends in the industry.

The Four-Day Jaipur Jewellery Show (JJS) Concludes

The four-day ‘The December Show’ – Jaipur Jewellery Show (JJS) concluded with a grand finale on 23 December, leaving a lasting impression on all attendees. The event, held at JECC, welcomed nearly 50,000 visitors and traders. As with every year, both the organisers and exhibitors were gratified by the enthusiastic and positive response they received, marking yet another successful edition of the show. The show concluded with a valedictory session.

JJS Chairman Highlights Milestones

While delivering the Welcome Address, Chairman of JJS, Vimal Chand Surana, said that the Jaipur Jewellery Show has truly reached new heights this year, with the largest number of booths ever and a record turnout of buyers. It is continuing to be a remarkable platform, ensuring great business opportunities for everyone involved. He also informed that the upcoming edition of JJS will be held from 19 to 22 December 2025.

JJS Secretary Shares Event Highlights

Honorary Secretary of JJS, Rajiv Jain, highlighted the impressive footfall of nearly 50,000 over four days, with 7,915 outstation registrations and 593 international attendees. Hosted buyers from across the globe, including Hong Kong, the USA, Russia, Armenia, Georgia, the UAE, Kazakhstan, Turkey, and Uzbekistan, made the event bigger and better, reinforcing Jaipur’s position as a hub for the finest in jewellery.

He further informed that another special feature of JJS this year was the visit from Russian and Thailand delegations. He added that there is a waiting list of 225+ exhibitors, and many have expressed a desire to enlarge the show next year, which serves as a barometer for the success of the 20th JJS show.

Valedictory Ceremony and Vote of Thanks

JJS Spokesperson, Ajay Kala, moderated the valedictory ceremony. He said that this time, JJS has been the best show so far in terms of business as well as management. It was the most comprehensive and useful show in terms of business. He expressed his gratitude to all the exhibitors, sellers, and visitors for the success of the show.

At the closing ceremony, vendors associated with the event were given mementos for their cooperation. Most of them have been associated with JJS since its inception in 2003. In the Vote of Thanks, Rajiv Jain thanked all the sponsors and supporters of the show.
