The Jaipur Jewellery Show (JJS) is widely regarded as one of India’s most prestigious and professionally managed Best trade exhibitions, with an impressive legacy of over two decades. Held annually in December, the event coincides with Jaipur’s most pleasant season and consistently attracts industry leaders, buyers, exhibitors and visitors from across the country and abroad.
Roadshow Event
The JJS Visitor Promotion Roadshow was recently held at the Taj Coromandel Hotel, Chennai, to engage with members of the jewellery fraternity and extend invitations to participate in this year’s edition. The event was graced by Shri Rajiv Jain, Secretary General of JJS, and Shri Kamal Kothari, Treasurer. In his keynote address, Shri Rajiv Jain highlighted the unique strengths of the show, its growing international stature, and its role as a catalyst for innovation and collaboration within the industry.
Guest of Honour
It was both a privilege and an honour to be invited as a Guest of Honour and to participate in the lamp-lighting ceremony alongside distinguished dignitaries.

GJEPC Leadership Insights
As the former Chairman of the Gems and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC)—India’s apex trade body under the Ministry of Commerce—his insights were immensely valuable. Our detailed interaction encompassed his personal experiences in his leadership journey at the helm of GJEPC, offering a deeper understanding of the challenges, opportunities, and strategic directions shaping the Indian gem and jewellery sector.
Jaipur Gem Industry Discussions
We engaged in meaningful discussions on critical issues impacting the Jaipur gem industry, particularly the shortage of skilled artisans, labour migration, and the need for structured skill development programs. While notable progress has been made through various initiatives, Shri Jain emphasized the necessity for a more comprehensive and policy-driven approach to sustain long-term growth.
Gem Mining Regulations
Our conversation also touched upon the urgent need to reform India’s gem mining regulations, many of which are outdated or inadequate. Given that a significant portion of India’s gem and jewellery exports rely on imported raw materials, the country’s role remains largely confined to value addition—a challenge that warrants focused government and industry collaboration.
Reflection on Interaction
My two-hour interaction with Shri Rajiv Jain was truly enlightening and intellectually stimulating. Engaging with a leader of his vision and experience offered fresh perspectives on the evolving global jewellery landscape and reinforced the importance of proactive dialogue, innovation, and strategic foresight within our industry.
