NORMS FOR JEWELLERY EXPORT VIA COURIER EASED

The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has introduced significant changes to ease the export of jewellery through courier services, aiming to streamline e-commerce activities. These modifications eliminate the need for exporters to provide specific item-level identification details and remove certain mandatory document attachments when filing the courier shipping bill.

Applicable to exporters who have no intention of re-importing the jewellery, the simplified process for jewellery exports via courier is a result of the continuous efforts made by the Gems and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) in collaboration with CBIC. The GJEPC has actively advocated for the relaxation of norms, particularly since CBIC introduced the simplified regulatory framework for e-commerce exports of jewellery via courier mode in June of last year.

Vipul Shah, Chairman of GJEPC, expressed satisfaction with the recent notification and circular issued by CBIC, acknowledging their responsiveness to industry demands. He emphasized that the reduced documentation requirements and simplified shipping bill details will enhance the efficiency of the export process and contribute to the growth of e-commerce exports in the gem and jewellery sector.
