Mumbai flagged off its first jewellery export consignment to the United Kingdom under the India–UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA), marking a historic milestone for India’s gem and jewellery industry and opening new opportunities through zero-duty market access.
India’s expanding network of Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) is creating major export opportunities for the gems and jewellery sector, especially for exporters, manufacturers, and MSMEs looking to tap into high-demand global markets.
GJEPC has called upon industry stakeholders to submit urgent recommendations on gold monetization, CAD reduction, promotion of low-karat jewellery, old gold recycling, export incentives, and anti-smuggling measures as part of a consolidated industry proposal to the Government of India.

The overall gross exports of gems and jewellery in February 2026 were recorded at US$ 2.68 billion (Rs. 24,340.05 crores), registering a growth of 3.86% (8.37% in Rs. terms) compared to US$ 2.58 billion (Rs. 22,460.13 crores) in February 2025.

With the India-EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations nearing conclusion and the upcoming India-EU Summit in New Delhi on 27th January 2026, the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) has been consistently urging the Govt. to negotiate duty free  market access for Indian made jewellery exports to EU. With the gold/silver prices at an upsurge, this will give very significant market advantage to Indian made products.
