Marco Paonessa, a craftsperson for London fine jewellery brand PureJewels, won a Goldsmiths’ Craft & Design Council (GCDC) award in March for craftsmanship for a second straight year

Marco won the award this year for his work on a necklace in PureJewels’ “Dhwani” collection.
The Inspiration Behind the Dhwani Collection
Dhwani, crafted in PureJewels’ innovative 22ct “Sunrise Gold” alloy in a warm shade of yellow, is inspired by the vibrations of sound, and features an innovative “sound ball” that brings a sense of balance and harmony to the wearer.
Innovative Setting Techniques and Gemstone Use
The pieces incorporate sapphires and diamonds, using unusual setting techniques pioneered by PureJewels’ in-house setter Sebastian Pintea.
A Collection Designed for Day to Evening Wear
The 25-piece collection, which was launched in time for the festive season last year, was created by Himalayan-based designer Pranjla Devshali for day to evening wear.

The range showcases a variety of pieces, including choker and lariat necklaces, round stud earrings, charm bracelets, drop earrings, rings and charms.

The Spiritual Inspiration Behind Dhwani
Pranjla Devshali said the inspiration for the collection came during a visit to the Tungnath Temple, one of the highest Shiva temples in the world, located in the Himalayas, in the Indian state of Uttarakhand.

“When I reached the temple, I rang the bell. The vibrations, the resonant sound, were transformative. It was as if the sound cleansed my aura. I wanted to encapsulate this feeling into something tangible.”

The Dhwani necklace, crafted by Marco Paonessa, can be worn singly as a statement piece, or can be paired with 22-carat gold round stud earrings.
