The Board of Governors of the Gemological Institute of America, Inc. (GIA) has named Pritesh Patel, currently GIA’s Chief Operating Officer, as the Institute’s President and Chief Executive Officer, effective August 4, 2025. Patel succeeds Susan M. Construction of MRM’s second processing plant (or “PP2”), designed to triple MRM’s ore processing capacity from 200tph to 600tph, is 95% complete and materially on budget. PP2 is now expected to produce its first rubies during August 2025 courtesy of the plant’s core components. Final completion of PP2, including the tailings belt conveyor and decanter centrifuge, is now expected to occur during September 2025

The signatories—including mining ministers of Angola, Botswana, South Africa, Namibia, and DRC, in collaboration with GJEPC, AWDC, DMCC and De Beers—pledged to contribute 1% of annual rough diamond revenues to fund a global marketing campaign spearheaded by the Natural Diamond Council (NDC)
